  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook the chicken pieces in chicken broth over medium heat until tender.
  2. Remove the chicken from the pot and shred it, reserving the broth.
  3. Add the onion, carrots, and celery to the pot and cook until softened.
  4. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter, then stir in the milk until combined.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture into the simmering broth. Cover and cook for 15 minutes.
  6. Add the shredded chicken back into the pot and stir gently. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
