Southern Baked Mac and Cheese

A creamy and delicious Southern Baked Mac and Cheese recipe using turkey bacon and chicken ham, perfect for family gatherings.

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup turkey bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup chicken ham, diced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually add milk, stirring continuously, and cook until thickened.
  5. Add Cheddar cheese, turkey bacon, chicken ham, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir until the cheese is melted.
  6. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and stir well.
  7. Pour into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.
  8. Bake in the oven for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños.
  • Use a mixture of different cheeses for added flavor.
